Lafayette The blue skies, colorful fall foliage and crisp autumn air provided the perfect backdrop for The Lafayette Day Fall Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 14. It had been a number of years since the residents of Lafayette had celebrated with a Fall Festival, and its return was welcomed by many of the area residents. Children and adults alike had a variety of fun activities from which to choose. Many kids opted for the hay maze, while others painted Halloween pumpkins. Still others had their picture taken with LT, the new Lafayette Tigers mascot, or played carnival games, including ring and bean bag tosses. The main attraction for many children was the Big Bounce Round, which was donated by the Lafayette Athletic Association, and the smaller Bounce Round for little tikes, donated by the Revoredo family. Donations and sponsored events played a huge part of the successful day, particularly the generous sponsorship from Lafayette Township. The Lafayette Fire Department was on hand to give tours of the fire trucks, fire safety information and hand out collector’s cards of the fire trucks at the department. The Chasers, a local band, donated their time and music for everyone’s enjoyment. As a special treat, attendees could hear an up and coming band comprised of Lafayette students called Short Fuse. Also included was a demonstration by Extreme Grind skating. Yet another highlight was a karate demonstration provided by Premier Martial Arts. Local area vendors provided all sorts of goodies, from toys and Halloween accessories to jewelry and beauty/spa products. A big thrill for most of the kids was getting their hair spray painted by the girls and leaders of local Girl Scout Troop 863. Marines from Picatinny Arsenal, G Co. 2/25 also donated their time and let event goers try on some of their heavy duty gear. In case of fall cravings, visitors had the choice of apple cider donuts, candy apples, apple cider, hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn, hot-cocoa, tea, coffee and soda. The Lafayette PTO held an old-fashioned pie competition in which local residents, children and adults, created culinary confections. After the competition and prizes were awarded for first, second and third place in the adult and children’s categories, slices were sold for one dollar. All monies raised go towards the Lafayette PTO and the fifth through eighth grade classes to help offset the cost of the end of the year dinner dance and eighth grade trip.
