Newton — David Magyar, artist, photographer, teacher and recipient of the 2004 Arts in Education Award, has work on display at the Altered Light public exhibit, running until Nov. 15. Magyar’s work reflects years of study and accomplishments in the arts. He started teaching fine arts in Montville Township High School in 1970. In addition to teaching classes in painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, graphic design, crafts, ceramics and sculpture, he also served as an advisor to the yearbook from 1971-1979. In 1977, he became Supervisor of Art for the Montville district and continued in this position until leaving in 1982. David went on to be employed by Wallkill Valley Regional High School in 1983, serving as Supervisor of Fine Arts. He was instrumental in establishing and managing a multi-district concert that began in 1987. Today’s concerts include both vocal and instrumental performances by seventh and eighth grade students from Hamburg, Franklin and Hardyston elementary school districts. Retired from teaching, David pursues his interest in photography by exhibiting his work in galleries in the area. He is greatly influenced by nature and the ambiance of everyday life.
