Byram - Mark Rust will kick off the Byram Arts in the Park series on Sunday, July 9, with an evening of song, dance and stories for the entire family. Rust first entertained a Byram audience during last summer’s Arts in the Park series and then performed on Veterans Day at the Municipal Building with songs of World Wars I and II. Arts in the Park, sponsored by the Byram Parks and Recreation Dept., is a family friendly summer series of free arts experiences for all ages. All concert events will take place on Sunday evenings starting at 6 p.m. at Neill Gylling Park, located on Mansfield Drive in Byram. In case of rain, the venue switches to the Byram Civic Center on Lackawanna Drive. Rust is a multi-talented performer who has made several recordings and plays guitar, piano, banjo, fiddle, mountain dulcimer and hammered dulcimer. He has appeared on television, recorded with Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul and Mary), starred in the National Touring Company production of Pump Boys and Dinettes, and plays over 100 performances a year in the Northeast and New England states. Rust’s performance will be followed on July 16 by “Movie Night in the Park.” Starting time is 8:15 p.m. For information on the film to be shown, call 973-347-2500, ext. 160/161. The program for July 23 is to be announced. Options include the Palisades Park Fire Dept. Band and the Mag 7 Pipe Band. These groups blend marches, popular music and traditional bagpipe music in a format not often heard this side of the Atlantic. The country music of Patti Davis and Bandit will be featured on July 30. This band has played with Kathy Mattea, Ronnie Milsap and Barbara Mandrell and has produced an album called “Stuck on Love’s Highway.” Finally, on Aug. 6, rock ‘n roll takes the stage as The Kootz Rock ‘n Roll Band returns from last summer to again entertain with classic hits from the 1960’s and 70’s , and even a few from the 80’s. Refreshments will be available for purchase at all Arts in the Park events and attendees are welcome to bring their own picnic. For information, call 973-347-2500, ext. 160/161.
