Newton - The Living History Series at Sussex County Community College will present Pat Jordan as Martha Washington at 7 p.m.on Thursday, May 4, in the Sussex Bank Theater at the college, located at One College Hill Rd. in Newton. Admission is $3. Widowed at an early age, Martha Washington took her two surviving children to Mount Vernon when she married George Washington. She tells of running the plantation, enduring long separations from her husband during the War for Independence, the journeys to visit him, and bringing up two of her grandchildren. Pat Jordan has been working with the American Historical Theatre for over 10 years. Her experience in historical interpretation and one-woman programs began with the study of Amelia Earhart for the Germantown Theatre Guild. Later she portrayed Betsy Ross for the American Historical Theatre and Martha Washington at Mount Vernon. She is an accomplished singer with a bachelor’s degree in theater from Villanova and has received training at Julliard opera workshops. Jordan teaches drama to children and has appeared in the historical theatre group’s “Victorian Music Hall.” She frequently presents recitals of well known arias in partnership with other musicians.
