NEWTON-The First United Methodist Church of Newton will host a concert featuring the Montclair Citadel Band of The Salvation Army at 7:30 p.m.on Nov. 6. Patterned after the British brass bands, the sound of the all-brass Montclair Citadel Band is symphonic. Its repertoire includes transcriptions of classic favorites, solo works for some of the band's virtuoso performers, toe-tapping Sousa marches, as well as items featuring hymns familiar to church-goers the world over. The band is comprised of 35 men and women of diverse backgrounds and personalities. Many high school and college students also serve in the band. The church is located at 111 Ryerson Ave., Newton.
