VERNON-Under the guidance of Dr. Michael Cannavale, eight Vernon Township High School students took to the stage, merging their love of literature with their love of music. Dressed in black, and with the poise of professionals, the students explained the various phases of mythologist Joseph Campbell's Monomyth theory. Each phase was punctuated with Billy Joel's music performed by the students, accomplished singers and musicians. They traced the journey that everyone takes, whether a character from The Hobbit, a Jedi warrior from Star Wars, or a high school student about to experience "Moving Up." The students, having recognized the connection, answered the call in their own creative way.
