Sparta - The Robie Foundation will hold its second annual “A Night at the Races” from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, at the Pegasus restaurant at the Meadowlands Raceway in Secaucus. This year’s special guest will again be John Sterling, the N.Y. Yankees’ announcer. He will conduct a special auction of autographed items from the Yankees, as well as other autographed sports memorabilia. The Robie Foundation is currently seeking donations for the tricky tray/raffle portion of the evening. Items must be received by May 14. To arrange a donation, call 973-735-4448 or send e-mail to JackieOuimette@TheRobieFoundation.com. The foundation is named for Robie Masterson, who was almost four years old and part of a set of triplets when he died unexpectedly on Nov. 4, 1904. He had a congenital heart defect, patent ductus arteriosus, commonly known as a heart murmur. The mission of the foundation is to educate parents and raise awareness about congenital heart defects. The foundation’s goal is to have every child receive a baseline echo cardiogram. Approximately 40,000 children are born every year with a congenital heart defect. Early detection can help save lives.
