Netcong The Growing Stage, The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey, will be holding auditions for its holiday production of “The Story of the Nutcracker.” Auditions for young people age 10 to 15 will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Auditions for adults and students 16 and older will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5. Those auditioning will be reading from the script and learning a short dance routine. The production is under the direction of the company’s founder and executive director, Steve Fredericks. The Growing Stage’s original adaptation transforms the classic holiday ballet into a fully formed theatrical production laced with the music of Tchaikovsky. The Growing Stage is a professional member theatre of the Association of Actor’s Equity. While roles are open to non-members and EMC Candidates, there will be five Equity roles under the TYA Tier B contract available. For each production, all roles are open and the Growing Stage adheres to a non-traditional casting policy. Performers of color, seniors, women, and performers with disabilities are encouraged to attend. Reliable transportation is a must. The production of “The Story of the Nutcracker” opens Nov. 24 and runs to Dec. 23, with performances in the Historic Palace Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and at 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
