Sparta - Who’s getting killed? Who’s making a killing? The story of what happens when corporations go to war. That is the promo for “Iraq for Sale,” a film being screened by Sussex County’s Northwest New Jersey Peace Fellowship at the Sparta United Methodist Church, 71 Sparta Ave., from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, March 9. “Iraq for Sale” was directed by Robert Greenwald, whose other films include “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price,” “Uncovered” and “Outfoxed” - an investigation of Fox News. The film provides an inside view from the perspective of some of those most affected by the war - widows and children, soldiers and truck-drivers - whose lives have been permanently altered by the course of this war. “Iraq for Sale” explores the interconnections between private corporations “making a killing” in lucrative war, security and reconstruction contracts in Iraq and those in power who pull the strings and make deals that pave the way. What are the true costs and who is accountable? This film exposes a lot of uncomfortable truths that those who have orchestrated this war would prefer to stay hidden. The Northwest New Jersey Peace Fellowship, an affiliate of New Jersey Peace Action, is a grassroots organization of concerned citizens, primarily residents of Sussex County, committed to a culture of peace, justice and nonviolence. While the group sponsor events at local religious institutions, the organization is not affiliated with, nor supports any religious denomination. For more information, visit http//www.nwnjpeace.org/. The organizers hope that people will attend this exciting screening event to be informed, to explore, to ask questions.
