Peace fellowship to screen film on war

Sparta — The Northwest New Jersey Peace Fellowship will present a poignant film, “The Ground Truth,” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, at the Sparta United Methodist Church, 71 Sparta Ave., Sparta. Hear and witness the lives of our soldiers in this penetrating film. The shocking ground conflict is only a prelude to even more challenging battles these reluctant heroes face upon their return home. The organizers hope that people will attend this exciting screening event to be informed, to explore, to ask questions and to engage these critically important world events. All are invited and welcome. Patricia Foulkrod produced and directed “The Ground Truth” so that viewers could talk openly about what really happens in war: the fact that people kill and are killed; the thousands who are injured in combat and must now struggle to cope with their pain; and new the stressful living conditions they must endure at home, long after the conflict is out of the news. The director wanted to show how deep the effects of killing in combat truly are - whether in self-defense or not - and create a national dialogue about the ”consciousness of killing.”’ “I felt it was important for us to witness the despair returning soldiers experience when their psychological needs are not recognized or provided for,” she says. “I wanted us to hear their hearts and troubled minds, so hopefully we can become more involved in long-term solutions for our veterans.” The Northwest New Jersey Peace Fellowship, an affiliate of New Jersey Peace Action, is a grassroots organization of concerned citizens, primarily residents of Sussex County, committed to a culture of peace, justice and nonviolence. They welcome discussion and interaction on complex topics. They are nonpartisan and do not endorse any candidate or political party. They are nonsectarian, neither affiliated with, nor exclusively supportive of, any religious denomination. For more information about the group, visit www.nwnjpeace.org.
