SUSSEx - The stories of Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne are colorfully brought to life as Winnie The Pooh, the musical, by Tri-State Actors Theater, Aug. 2 through 12 at the historic Crescent Theater, 74 Main St., Sussex. Kristen Sergel has adapted A.A. Milne’s stories and poems to create a delightful and heartwarming musical with music by Allan Jay Friedman. Winnie the Pooh is Christopher Robin’s fat little bear of “very little brain”, who would like to drift peacefully through life, humming tunes and stopping frequently to eat “a little something.” However, he finds himself involved in all sorts of frantic adventures, assisted by such friends as the dismal Eeyore, Piglet and Rabbit, with his countless relations. Pooh’s intentions are always the best, but his passion for honey and condensed milk keep getting him into trouble. When friend Piglet gets roped into Kanga’s household and Kanga starts bathing him (with soap!) and forcing down spoonfuls of Strengthening Medicine, Pooh wants to fly to the rescue, but he’s had so many snacks he gets stuck in the door. Adventure is always lurking in the Hundred-Acre Wood. And an imaginative escapade is always a good way to put the mind at ease. Leading the adventure is Tri-State’s Student Intern Company for 2006. Lauren DeVore of Franklin is cast as Winnie along with other characters: Kayla Araujo, Sussex, as Eeyore; Jonathan Dragon, Wantage, as Roo; Dallas Haines, Sussex, as Piglet; Alexa Ross, Glenwood, as Christopher Robin; Colleen Sullivan, Franklin, as Owl; James Todd, West Milford, as Rabbit; Natassia Velez, Middletown, NY, as Kanga; Renee Spohler, Wantage, as Skunk; and as rabbits, Alexis Alemy, Wantage, and Arden Winant, West Milford. The Interns spend their rehearsal time learning about theater and acting techniques from director, Paul Meacham. Jim Blanton, from Port Jervis, NY, provides musical training and keyboard accompaniment throughout the run. Choreographer Lea Antolini, Sparta, assisted by Anna Matthews, Sussex, is working with the younger performers on movement and animal characterizations.
