Wantage - Bruce Springsteen, Danny Glover, Princess Diana and Angelina Jolie are among those who have graced the cover of the Star-Ledger’s weekly TV magazine, the Scanner, thanks to artist Peter Ambush, a resident of Newton. Ambush has been drawing original portraits for Scanner for more than a decade, and 32 of his illustrations are on display through May 31 at the Sussex-Wantage Branch Library, 69 Rte. 639, Wantage. Ambush will also give a talk at the library from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, titled “The Many Faces of Peter Ambush.” He will delve into how he creates his works in a range of media, from watercolor and oil, to graphite, colored pencil, gouache, and acrylic. Space is limited. To register, call 973-875-3940. Ambush, who grew up in Frederick, Md., earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art, specializing in illustration and graphic design. He also studied at du Cret School of the Arts in Plainfield. “Over the 10 years I spent creating these Scanner covers, I tried to bring something special each week to the viewing audience through my love of the portrait,” he says. He has sketched more than 400 icons of American culture and his works are becoming prized as collector’s items. For information about purchasing an original Ambush portrait, call 973-895-3356.
