Artist to demonstrate skills at wine-and-cheese reception Newton — Radiant Essentials, Newton’s new boutique for the mind and soul, will open on Sept. 16 at 214 Spring Street. From 6 to 9 p.m. guests can enjoy a wine and cheese reception introducing the collaboration of boutique owner/artist, Bernadette Blaney and award-winning artist, Jennie Traill Schaeffer. Schaeffer designed her newest hand painted tiles, exclusive to Radiant Essentials, to celebrate the tranquil vibrancy of Blaney’s store. Featuring lotus flowers and Japanese teacups, the tiles are both functional coasters and pieces of fine art. Guests will see three demonstrations by the artist at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. As part of the evening, guests will have an opportunity to win an original “Enlightened Tile” by Schaeffer valued at $40 and an original by Radiant Essential’s owner, Blaney. Named “Best New Artist” at the 2006 Skylands Juried Show, Schaeffer is an emerging artist who has exhibited in the New York City metro area, with work located in a growing number of private collections in Manhattan, Morristown, and Vernon. Known for her oil paintings of appliances, Schaeffer found a love of painting on tiles about a year ago and began an entire line of artwork influenced by simpler times, when small shops and fresh foods were the norm. The vision of owner and artist-in-residence Blaney, Radiant Essentials is a destination as well as a gallery and boutique. The interior is a balance of clean, sleek lines and soothing, calming colors chosen for their connection to nature. The store showcases an array of art and gifts from artists around the world.
