WEST MILFORD — Ringwood resident, Renee Lando will open for globally renowned blues artist Rory Block at the April 22 concert hosted by “Music At The Mission.” Lando, whose unique style has been coined as a fusion of new age-classical with a side of blues, composes and performs acoustic 6 and 12-string instrumentals in which alternate tunings and intriguing tonal textures serve to underscore strong melody lines. A veteran performer of more than 24 years, Lando is celebrating the September 2005 release of her second CD entitled, “Heartstrings,” a collection of instrumentals featuring Lando’s brand of guitar work with a keys and mandolin backdrop. Lando’s opening peformance is expected to serve as a powerful link to Rory Block’s most recent project as a contributing artist on Patti Larkin’s November 2005 compilation CD, “La Guitarra” featuring both renowned as well as newly discovered female guitar virtuosos intended to highlight the impact that women have made with guitar in a variety of genres. Rory Block is presently regarded internationally as the leading female interpreter and authority of traditional country blues. She has recorded and performed with such notables as Bonnie Rait, Mark Knopfler, Michael Hedges, Keb Mo and The Band. A four-time W.C. Handy award winner and 1989-1999 winner of the Eric Clapton Crossroads Festival, Block tours globally promoting her numerous CD’s released on the Rounder and Telarc labels. “Music At The Mission” hosts its concerts at the West Milford Presbyterian Church at 1452 Union Valley Road. Doors will open for the April 22 concert at 7:30 p.m. with music starting at 8 p.m. For additional information or to purchase tickets, visit www musicatthemission.org or call 973-728-4201.
