WEST MILFORD The sounds of jazz music will be ringing through the halls of West Milford High School on Friday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. The West Milford High School Choral Department will present a special concert featuring renowned jazz pianist, Rio Clemente. Clemente, known as the Bishop of Jazz, will start the evening by accompanying the high school students on a selection of songs in the jazz style and then perform on his own for the second half. The evening will close with a rousing finale featuring all students together with Clemente. Doug Heyburn, the choral director and organizer of the concert says he is very excited about having Rio as the concert’s guest artist. “Rio has been a close friend of my family for many years. He is truly one of a kind.” Heyburn says he has been fortunate over the years to be teaching in the same town where another great Jazz pianist, Mitch Schecter, lives. “Mitch has been such an integral part of my choral program since I arrived 11 years ago and the kids have benefited greatly from his professionalism.” Tickets can be purchased in the high school’s main office or from any member of the high school choral department.
