Lafayette — A piano recital took place on Saturday, March 24, at the Lafayette Federated Church in Lafayette, sponsored by the North Jersey Piano Teachers Association, a tradition that has been going on for the past twenty years. One of the goals of the association is to raise funds for scholarships to support studies in music for talented students. Thirty-seven students of nine music teachers participated, performing intermediate to advanced levels of music before a capacity audience that applauded each performer. Two students were recipients of the music scholarship. Chelsea Di Diego, student of Beverly Flormann who performed Debussy’s “Claire De Lune,” and Jamie Compton, student of Ed Korczynski who performed the first movement of Beethoven’s Sonata op. 2, no. 1. Both winners have been accepted to college, where they will continue their studies in music. Other students in the recital ranged from early elementary to high school seniors, one of the youngest being Madeleine Cuan. She performed the complete rendition of Beethoven’s “Fur Elise.”
