LAFAYETTE—The Schering-Plough Research Institute is accepting applications for its Summer Institute For Teachers. The four-week research program will offer two science teachers, grades 6-12, the opportunity to be a part of a research team and learn about the latest technologies used in pharmaceutical science. Participants will work at the Schering-Plough Research Institute in Lafayette, where they will be introduced to such topics as general toxicology, pathology, drug metabolism, and others. Each Summer Institute participant will be assigned a fictional new drug "case history" and will watch it go through the steps in drug development. A stipend is included, along with a donation of science equipment/supplies to each teacher's school. Completion of the program entitles participants to three graduate credits at Kean University (tuition and fees not included). The 2005 Summer Institute will run July 5-28. Applications must be postmarked by May 19. For more information, call Dr. Carrie Markgraf at 973-940-4641.
