Sparta - Girl Scout troop 791 of Sparta is conducting a drive to help the homeless in Sussex County this year by collecting nonperishable foods and/or personal hygiene items. The troop is asking for the community’s help. Last year more than 300 people were counted and found to be homeless in the county during a 24-hour period, according to an annual survey conducted by Sussex County. The community can help in one of two ways: Donations may be brought to the First Hope Bank on Woodport Road in Sparta and dropped in the Pass It Along box in the lobby through April 20. The troop is also organizing a talent show on Friday, April 21, at Acting A Part in Sparta, for youths ages eight and up. Tickets cost $5 in advance, $6 at the door. Proceeds will go towards purchasing food and personal hygiene items to be distributed to the homeless on April 26. The troop is still seeking additional contestants for the talent show. Prizes will be awarded at this event. To purchase tickets or enter the show, call 973-975-8321.
