RINGWOOD — Children are invited on a magical visit to storyland in the perfect fairytale setting at the New Jersey State Botanical Garden on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Storyteller Anne Kahwaty will lead youngsters ages 3 to 8 on a fun-filled story-time adventure in historic Skylands Manor. Sponsored by the NJBG/Skylands Association, this program is a great way to start off the new year for the little ones. Adults will also enjoy the opportunity to explore this beautiful historic building.
There will be two sessions, each limited to 20 children. Admission is $5 per child. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, but one adult admission is free. Additional adults are $5. Registration is requested at 973-962-9534, but walk-ins are welcome, space permitting.
Skylands Manor, a Tudor Revival mansion, was constructed in the early 20 century for Clarence McKenzie Lewis by renowned architect John Russell Pope. Pope also designed many outstanding private buildings, including the Jefferson Memorial and National Gallery of Art, both in Washington, D.C. Among Skylands Manor's many attractions are a remarkable collection of antique stained glass medallions set in leaded windows, including pieces from 16th century German, Bavarian and Swiss sites. The lanterns, electrical fixtures, lamps, spiral staircase rail and gate were fashioned by Samuel Yellin, who led the American revival of the use of iron as decorative art.
