Sparta - “Come one, Come all to see what we got in store!!!” The roots-blues infused rock band Straight Dope Cherry is back on the scene with a cherry new sound and a straight dope recording. The release of the band’s debut full-length record, “Bellbottom Baby”, is set to drop Friday, Dec. 16, at The Whiskey Bar in Hoboken. The album was recorded this past July at Junction Studio in Nashville, Tenn. A main difference between “Bellbottom Baby”, besides being recorded in just 11 days, and the band’s first release, EP - “Traffic, Tile and I Will See the Sun”, is that many tracks were performed live in the studio. “We are a live band. That’s what we do, and that’s what the album is designed to sound like,” said SDC’s newest member, Al Perdomo (drums, vocals). Perdomo is a recent graduate of The New Jersey City University as a Music Education major. Bassist Rick Ackerman added, “Al brings dynamic, musical knowledge and a certain energy that we couldn’t achieve without him.” The evolution of the project was further propelled when guitarist/singer Ronnie Grana moved to keyboards just three months prior to recording. “There are greater textures being created within the soundscape and more complex interaction between instruments,” says founding member Craig Sorensen (guitar, vocals) on Grana’s switch to keys. However, new instrumentation is not the only new feature of the band; three- and four-part harmony has been added to the mix, delivering an even more vintage, straight dope sound. “Bellbottom Baby” and “Traffic, Tile and I Will See the Sun” will be available at all live shows and online at www.straightdopecherry.com. Straight Dope Cherry music can be requested on WNTI 91.9 FM and online at www.homegrownradionj.com. The Whiskey Bar is located at 125 Washington Street in Hoboken.
