Newton - Sussex County Community College’s 16th annual student art exhibition runs through June 13. This year a jury of fine art department faculty and students selected more than 200 pieces of art produced during the school year. Julie McWilliams, coordinator of the Fine Arts degree program said, “Athough the show requires a great deal of planning, it is always an interesting and eclectic exhibition. It’s important for all artists, to see their efforts hung in a professional gallery setting, to compare their ideas and work with their peers. Additionally, participation in this competitive, juried format is a valuable component of the student/artist resume and since our students also participate in the jurying, hanging, and striking of the show, they gain immeasurable experience of the gallery process. It’s an important show for us all.” Students at SCCC work in a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, photography, design, sculpture, fiber and ceramics. The exhibition is free and open to the public. For more information, directions to the college or summer gallery hours, call 973-300-2100 or visit the website at www.sussex.edu.
