Oak Ridge The Jefferson Arts Committee has announced that Sunset Soundz will perform in concert on Saturday, April 28, on the auditorium stage of the Jefferson Township High School, 1010 Weldon Road, Oak Ridge. The group of singers and musicians will perform music from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, popular standards, some country and even some contemporary top 40. Male and female singers accompanied by an energetic seven-piece band consisting of drums, bass, guitar, keyboard and sax. Frontman Mike Gintella motivates and involves the audience in the group’s performance. Sunset Soundz has been performing at lounges, weddings, private parties, award banquets and fundraising events for more than 25 years. They last performed in Jefferson Township at the gazebo summer concert series in 2006, thanks to a grant from the Jefferson Township Public Library. In addition, they regularly appear at local restaurants, including Gabriel’s in Wayne; The Whiskey Café in Lyndhurst; and Gencarelli’s Restaurant/Lounge in Newark. The Jefferson Township Community Band, under the direction of Peter Tummillo, will open the show at 7:30 p.m. Started in 1992 to provide an avenue of expression to community instrumentalists, the band is composed mostly of township residents who enjoy musicianship and performing. The band performs a variety of music, including the classics, Broadway musicals, standard marches and patriotic salutes. Tickets for the are $12 adults; $10 senior citizens 65 and older and students with a school ID; and $8 children 10 and under.
