Netcong -“Teen Scenes,” a three-week intensive workshop, which will run from July 17 through August 3, allows teens will work alongside The Growing Stage - The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey’s professional teaching artists. Students will explore and interpret a selected script as well as design, create and build their own production. Utilizing a “production schedule framework,” students’ time will be highly structured, yet charged with creative energy. Students will also review basic stage instruction, acting technique and character development. The physical nature of the performing arts will be focused on through yoga instruction, dance and stage movement. Speech and mask making will also allow students to expand character possibilities. Classes are held from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and are open to high-school teens who have completed freshman year through senior year in 2006. The students’ efforts will be spotlighted in a culminating performance for invited family and friends on Saturday, Aug. 5. Growing Stage Theatre, is located in the historic Palace Theatre (circa 1919), located on Route 183 in Netcong. It is the only professional member theatre of the Actor’s Equity Association in New Jersey that is solely dedicated to young people with its own theatre.
