NETCONG — The Growing Stage-The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey recently received a $10,000 grant from The Shubert Foundation in support of general operations.
The Shubert Foundation is the nation’s largest private foundation dedicated to unrestricted funding of not-for-profit, professional performing arts, and its grant recipients have included such distinguished theatres as New York’s Lincoln Center Theatre and Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre. This is the first time The Growing Stage has been among the foundation’s grantees.
The Shubert Foundation’s standard for grant awards is based on an assessment of each organization’s operation and its contribution to the field. Artistic achievement, administrative strength and fiscal stability are factored into each evaluation, as is the company’s development of new work and other significant contributions to the field of professional theatre in the U.S.
Growing Stage founder and Executive Director Stephen L. Fredericks noted, “This award is especially significant because it helps us keep tickets and tuitions affordably priced for families, and it is a meaningful endorsement of our work.”
