Franklin - After drawing standing ovation crowds in England and South Africa last year, the Yale Spizzwinks(?), America’s oldest underclassman a cappella ensemble, will present a concert at The First Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Franklin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3. The 16-member all-male ensemble, directed by Yale college students, will also perform in Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Brazil, Paraguay, China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore during the coming season. The Yale Spizzwinks(?) were founded in 1914 as a satirical response to the Yale Whiffenpoofs and have a repertoire ranging from traditional Yale songs, jazz standards, pop ballads, spirituals, to rock n’ roll. The group claims to count among their fans Magic Johnson, Henry Kissinger, Kelsey Grammer, George Pataki, and John Kerry, as well as audiences at the White House, Carnegie Hall, ESPN, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and Disney World. The Franklin concert is open to the public at no charge. A free-will offering will be taken.
