The very best chili around

WEST MILFORD — Yummy was the word of the day Sunday at the West Milford Presbyterian Church's sixth annual Chili Cook Off.
This year, the cook off was also a bake off, adding judging for the most creative cake to the chili dishes. In each category, there were eight entries. Best part of all was that all who came to the cook off were judges in both the chili and cake competitions.
Mike Abood took the day's top prize for his chili, while second place went to Ada Erik, who is also a township councilwoman.
The cakes brought out some outstanding bakers. The winner was made by Joanne Ward with a Samoa cake, complete with caramel, chocolate and toasted coconut. It even sounds like a winner. Also for the tasting were carrot cake, chocolate oatmeal cake, pistachio cake and a favorite chocolate cake.
Everyone was pretty full after eating each of the chili dishes and the cakes.
Proceeds from the event go to community outreach programs of the church. Be sure to look for next year's chili cook off. Anyone can enter and there is no charge to do so.
