Trenton - New Jersey: We’ll Give You an Extra Week. While thousands of people have cast ballots for their favorite state slogan, New Jersey’s acting governor on Friday said the deadline for voting will be extended by seven days, to Jan. 8. Acting Gov. Richard J. Codey said he wanted to ensure that more Garden State residents have a chance to voice their preference. About 7,000 people have voted so far, Codey said. The five finalists were selected out of 8,000 state slogans proposed by residents who submitted them after Codey rejected a tag line produced by a marketing company. Codey nixed that slogan, ``New Jersey: We’ll Win You Over,’’ because he said it reminded him of when he was single and would ask girls out on dates. The finalists are: ``New Jersey: Expect the Unexpected.’’ ``New Jersey: Love at First Sight.’’ ``New Jersey: Come See for Yourself.’’ ``New Jersey: The Real Deal.’’ ``New Jersey: The Best Kept Secret.’’ Residents can vote for the tag line they like best by calling 609-984-9893 or by going to the Web site http://www.nj.gov/slogan.
