‘Thursdays on the Green' is back

    Newton - “Thursdays on the Green” at Sussex County Community College begins June 7 with “Old Echoes, New Ears n The Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece” performed by Shakespeare LIVE!, the educational touring wing of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. It will be held in the Lakeland Bank Pavilion on the Connor Green at 6:45 p.m. The performance is free; refreshments will be available for purchase and chairs will be provided for this event. “Old Echoes, New Ears n The Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece” was created for the Shakespeare LIVE! Touring company. In this production magical muses lead a journey through the classic tales of Greek mythology from the rise of the Olympian deities to Icarus’ fall, from Midas’ golden touch to Narcissus’ self-love. “Thursdays on the Green” will continue throughout the summer with an assortment of music and entertainment. The schedule for 2007 is: June 14 n SIORA (Jazz) June 21 n The Rob Canillo and Friends Band (Rock, Americana, Blues, and Jazz) June 28 n Anthem (Reggae) July 5 n “Divine Strings” Aishu and Vinod (V.R.) Venkataraman (14-year old South Indian Violinist) July 12 n Zydeco-A-Go-Go (Zydeco Music) July 19 n Special Guest to be Announced “Thursdays on the Green” is supported by sponsors, including: Lakeland Bank, Sussex Bank, James Alexander Corp., and the Newton Rotary. All of the performances are free. Each performance begins at 6:45 p.m. Proceeds from concession sales benefiting scholarships at the college.
