LAFAYETTE-The township was the antique hub of Sussex County this past weekend. The Lafayette Recreation Committee held a fundraiser with an antique show and sale arranged by Black Cat Promotions, and the Antiques at Lafayette Crossing ushered in the fall season with its autumn celebration. At the crossing, corn stalks, pots of mums, and pumpkins adorned the entrances to the buildings, and the dealers offered shops full of deals. At the township field, 28 dealers, with their wares under tents, provided something for everyone n a life-size Raggedy Ann, coffee pots to musical instruments, baskets and hats, clothing and furniture, and trunks. Neal Sharpe, who has been a member of the group for two years, explained that their primary goal is to provide the "kids with things to do in town." The committee sponsors fishing contests, an annual Easter egg hunt, and is responsible for maintenance of the fountain and beach at the pond. Chairperson Kathie Reimels and the nine-member committee are now in the midst of preparing for the upcoming Halloween party. The group also sponsors the sports programs that include baseball, soccer, and basketball. The township has acquired property that will be developed for recreational activities and the committee will function in an advisory role. Plans for the land include additional sports fields and a stage for concerts, which are being considered for next summer.
