SUSSEX Tri-State Actors Theater will present playwright Deborah Savadge’s new comedy “State of the Art” as part of the ongoing New Scripts Play Reading Series. The reading begins at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the historic Crescent Theater, 74 Main St. in Sussex. “State of the Art” follows the romantic antics of four members of an acting company as they battle their producer, the critics and each other. Kathryn Long, a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreograhers, will direct the reading. Reading from the script will be Ross Beschler, Chuck Blasius, Stephen Bradbury, and Melissa Hurst (all members of Actors Equity Association) and also Jamie Klassel. Playwright Deborah Savadge recently won the Montclair TheatreFest regional playwriting contest and the John Golden prize for playwright. Admission to the reading is by donation. Audience members are invited to the talk back following the reading with the playwright, director, actors and audience members. Live readings and the response from new listeners is an important part of the script development process for the playwright. For more information, contact the theater at 875-2950. Free parking for all theater events is available at the Harrison Street Municipal Parking lot, directly behind the theater.
