Frankford — The Sussex County Library System is promoting Two Writing Contests For Kids: “The Grannie Annie” inspired by Sussex County’s own Ann Cutler, and “My Family in Sussex County History,” created by the Library especially for Sussex County Kids. Guidelines and entry forms are found on the Local History page of the Library Web site at www.sussexcountylibrary.org/localhistory.htm, and can be picked up at local Library branches. Questions, call the Main Library at 973-948-3660. Children grades 4-8 and home-school students ages 9-14 are invited to participate in both contests, by interviewing a family member and writing a story related to their family history. The deadline for entry into both contests is Feb. 14. • “The Grannie Annie: A Family Story Celebration” Entry guidelines and forms are found at www.thegrannieannie.org and can be picked up at any Sussex County Library branch. Winning contest entries will be published in the 2007 edition of the book by the same name, “The Grannie Annie.” The Grannie Annie contest was developed by author Connie McIntyre after working with Sussex County resident Ann Cutler, to create books based on her mother growing up and teaching school in Lafayette. Cutler and McIntyre were featured in a New Jersey Herald article on August 13. The purpos e of the contest is to promote world peace through learning about the past experiences of our own family members and reflecting on how they might relate to the experiences that others around us are having today. • “My Family in Sussex County History” All students who write a story about a family member’s history in Sussex County may enter. Guidelines and entry forms can be found at www.sussexcountylibrary.org/MyFamily.htm and picked up at any Sussex County Library branch. Contest winners will have their stories posted on the Sussex County Library Genealogy and Local History Web page. The Main Library in Frankford will hold a Family History Celebration party for all contest participants and their family members.
