WarwickAs part of the Warwick Art League Visiting Artist Series, Laura Breitman will demonstrate her method of fabric collage on Sunday, June 3, in the Senior Room of Warwick Town Hall. Raised in Queens, Breitman attended the High School of Music and Art where she majored in textile design. She also studied children’s book illustration and photography at the College of Visual Arts in New York. From 1971 to 1975 Breitman worked in New York’s garment district as a textile designer and colorist. In 1975 she left New York in search of a slower pace and more peaceful surroundings. She lived in California and Mexico through 1977, soaking up the brilliant colors and textures of her environment, while networking with other artists. Missing her family and friends, she returned to New York where she engaged in numerous occupations including New York City cab driver, waitress, and welder for an iron works company. Through all her endeavors, she continued to gather visual information, trying new techniques with fabric and adding to her already extensive fabric collection. After years of perfecting her skills, Laura became a full-time studio artist in 1986. Her work appears in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and abroad. She is now living in Warwick, with her husband Michael and their poodle Vinny. Breitman’s work may be seen on her Web site, www.laurabreitman.net. The public is invited to attend this demonstration, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. For more information call 987-8507.
