Jefferson - The Wheels, featuring guitarist Mike Esposito, bassist Vern Miller, and drummer Bob Cianci, will appear at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, in the Jefferson Gazebo Summer Concert Series. The gazebo is located in the Jefferson Township Municipal Complex at 1033 Weldon Rd., Oak Ridge. The Wheels play an eclectic mix of electric and acoustic American roots music, including blues, classic rock, bluegrass, folk, and “old-timey” tunes. Although The Wheels have performed in the tri-state area for only about two years, its members are versatile musicians who have extensive recording and touring experience. Esposito and Miller, both published songwriters, add several of their original tunes to the group’s repertoire. Esposito formerly played with The Lost World String Band and Second Wind, and has shared stages with Johnny Copeland, the Ventures, John Hammond and others. Playing electric and acoustic guitars, National steel, lap steel, and Dobro, Esposito has released three solo CDs and has appeared on over 25 albums as a sideman. Miller, bassist and music teacher from the Lake Shawnee area of Jefferson, played with the legendary sixties garage band The Remains, appearing on TV on the 1965 Ed Sullivan Christmas show and on Hullabaloo. The group toured with the Beatles in 1966. The Remains continue to perform throughout Europe with their original lineup intact. Miller also worked with Donna Summer in the early seventies and was leader/bassist/songwriter for the Warner Brothers group, Swallow. Cianci, a noted drummer, author, and music journalist, also plays with the north Jersey classic rock band, the Koontz. A veteran of the east coast music circuit, he has played with Rock n Roll Hall of Fame members The Yardbirds, guitarist Jimmy Vivino from the Conan O’Brien Show, and others. From 1985 to 1992, he worked with Miller in the Roosters, a roots rock, rhythm-and-blues band regarded at the time as one of the best in northern New Jersey. The concert is free. Guests may bring along a blanket/chair and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. For information and/or directions, log on to jeffersonarts.org, jeffersontownship.net, or call 973-697-1946.
