Hackettstown — The Young Performers Workshop, an educational program for children and teens, sponsored by the Centenary Stage Company, will present its Winter Festival of Shows from Dec. 8 through Dec. 17 at the Little Theatre, on the campus of Centenary College in Hackettstown. Come celebrate the true meaning of the holiday season as the Young Performers present O. Henry’s classic tale “The Gift of the Magi.” It is Christmas in New York, but for two young lovers, the prospects are bleak, as both are out of work and penniless. But as those familiar with the story are aware, their dilemma is solved when both part with their most precious possessions in order to buy presents for each other. The Gift of the Magi performs at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9; at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10; at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16; and at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17. “Bye Bye Birdie,” a satire done with the fondest affection, tells the story of a rock and roll singer who is about to be inducted into the Army. With a musical score by Charles Strauss, the show is loaded with musical theatre classics such as “Put on a Happy Face” and “Spanish Rose.” “Bye Bye Birdie” will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9; at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10; at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15; at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16; and at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17. “Count to Ten” is a timeless tale of romance, friendship and growth told through dance, song and scene. Unemployed actor/writer Victor heads to Starwood Performing Arts Camp in the Catskill Mountains, where he is forced into producing his unfinished original musical with a cast of adolescents. What follows is a high-spirited, toe tapping, rich and satisfying musical. “Count to Ten” will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8; at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10; at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17.
