3 charged with DWI in Sparta

Jose Valdes-Sutuj, 37, of Newton was charged with driving while intoxicated early Jan. 2 after an officer saw his vehicle make an abrupt lane change, police said.

About 2:20 a.m., Officer Andrew Spitzer saw a black Chevy Silverado that was traveling north on Route 15 make an abrupt change from the left lane across the right lane and onto the Route 517 ramp.

He stopped the vehicle on Sparta Junction and while speaking with the driver, he suspected that Valdes-Sutuj had been consuming alcoholic beverages while operating his vehicle, police said.

Spitzer asked Valdes-Sutuj to perform field eobriety tests, then arrested him and took him to police headquarters.

After breath testing, Valdes-Sutuj also was charged with careless driving and failure to maintain lane on a highway. He was advised of a mandatory court appearance and released to a sober adult.

DWI, speeding charges

Peter Quinn, 32, of Hewitt was charged with driving while intoxicated, speeding and more after his vehicle was stopped about 7:50 p.m. Dec. 26, police said.

Cpl. Marc Rubino stopped the driver of a gray Jeep after he saw it traveling 71 mph in a 45-mph zone on Sparta Avenue.

Rubino detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage from within the vehicle and asked Quinn to perform field sobriety tests, police said. After completion of the tests, he was arrested and taken to police headquarters.

After breath testing, he was charged with DWI, speeding, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to provide documents. He was advised of a mandatory court appearance and released to a sober adult. His vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour period.

Charged with DWI

Clinton Petree Jr., 39, of Sparta was charged with driving while intoxicated very early Dec. 27, police said

Cpl. Arlene Lippencott saw a gray Ram pickup partially off the road near Green Road and Cheyenne Trail about 1:30 a.m. It appeared that the vehicle had been involved in an accident.

Petree was arrested after he performed a series of field sobriety tests and was taken to police headquarters.

After breath testing, he was charged with DWI and advised of a mandatory court appearance before he was released to a sober adult.
