SPARTA Brandon R. Entwistle was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at an Eagle Court of Honor held recently at the United Methodist Church of Sparta. Brandon is a resident of Sparta and a member of Boy Scout Troop 150. His Eagle Scout project was the construction of five concrete handicap accessible ramps for cabins at Camp Marcella, the NJ Camp for Blind and Handicapped Children in Rockaway. This project involved designing the ramps to meet ADA and town building specifications, soliciting donations of materials as well as professional contractors, and leading crews of fellow scouts, friends and adult volunteers in over 130 hours of effort to complete the ramps. The cabins are used as residences by the campers during the summer camping season. Brandon has been active in scouting since 1999. He entered Troop 150 in 2004, and has served in several leadership positions within the troop. Over the years, he has had a wide range of experiences, including summer camps at Camp Somers and winter camping in cabins and at Klondike Derbies. He also attended high-adventure treks including Camp Sabattis, which is a canoe and hiking trek in upstate New York; Sea Base, where he lived and worked on a sailboat in the Florida Keys for a week; and Northern Tier, which is a week long canoe trek in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. Outside of Scouting, Brandon is an honor student at Sparta High School, graduating this June. He is a three-year varsity ice hockey player, and was captain of the team this year. Brandon earned first team league all-star as a junior, and the Mugs Media Sussex County Ice Hockey player of the year award as a senior. He is a member of the National Honor Society. Brandon will be attending Northeastern University in Boston this fall. His trail to Eagle was made possible in part by the help of others, including former scoutmaster Joe Galley, current scoutmaster Joe Fucito and scout leaders Mark Keenan and Scott Kalman. Keith Dericks, Steve Linnear, Paul Mosner and the Lions Club of NJ also helped him achieve success.
