County director of Senior Services to retire

Newton — Mary Lou Schnurr will retire from her position as director of senior services as of July 1, 2011. Schnurr, appointed by the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, has served in this position since January 2007. She began her career with the county in August of 1998 as director of the Homestead, which is the County’s 102-bed long term care facility. A statement about her retirement form the County reads: “During her tenure, Schnurr has made significant contributions by providing guidance and dedication to the seniors she has served in both directorship roles. During her distinguished career with the county, Mary Lou has realized many accomplishments.” Stephen Gruchacz, administrator of the Department of Human Services, commended her for her “positive energy, which she has used to encourage, inspire and motivate senior citizens to live active and full lifestyles.”
