After graduating from Blair Academy, Dana earned his BA from Colgate University and his Juris Doctorate from the College of William & Mary. In 1967 he was admitted to the Supreme Court of both New Jersey and Virginia, U.S. District Court, and, in 1968, to the U.S. Court of Military Appeals. He is a member of the N.J., Virginia, and Sussex County bar associations as well as the national and N.J. associations of school board attorneys. Prior to joining Morris, Downing & Sherred, he served in the U.S. Navy as a JAG Officer for three years. He served on the Supreme Court of N.J. He also served as general counsel to the Hardwick planning board and township committee, Sparta’s planning board, First Hope Bank and the N.J. Herald. During his 30 plus years as an attorney, Dana counseled more than a dozen Sussex and Warren County boards of education in education law areas such as work/labor relations, special education matters, tenure and seniority rights, budget appeals and construction contracts. He represented school boards before numerous stat agencies and courts. James P. Fox, who has worked for several years with Dana, will continue the educational law practice at Morris, Downing & Sherred. “Craig was a great role model for our associates, including me,” said Richard Valenti, Dana’s partner. “He always expected of the associates no more than he expected of himself, namely intense dedication to his clients.” David L. Johnson, another colleague, remarked, “Craig’s remarkable work ethic, professionalism and integrity have presented an admirable example for those who have followed him at MD&S. We look to continue to serve our clients in the future with the same dedication to task and thoughtful insight he brought to his practice.” Dana will continue to serve as judge in the municipal courts in Blairstown, Wantage, and the joint municipal courts of North Warren and Andover, as well as Fredon and Green. He has volunteered as a member and former chairman of the board of trustees of Newton Memorial Hospital, and has also served as a long-standing trustee for Blair Academy, his high school alma mater, as well as the United Way of Sussex County.
