Newton - Patrick J. Fitzgibbons, of Ogdensburg, and Marge Lake McCabe, of Newton, were honored as the Irishman and Irishwoman of the year by the Ancient Order of Hibernians at a luncheon held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at Sullivan’s Bar & Restaurant on Rte. 23 in Franklin. The Ancient Order of Hibernians is the oldest Catholic lay organization in America, Fitzgibbons and McCabe were honored for their commitment to community service. “Each year this gives us the opportunity to recognize those of Irish descent who quietly go about their daily business, but who through hard work and dedication, make a huge contribution to the community,” said Greg Denny, president of the Sussex County chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Fitzgibbons is a former mayor of Ogdensburg and a member of the local school board. Lake McCabe is president of the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce and is active in the local community.
