SPARTA-The GFWC Junior Woman's Club of Sparta awarded a $2,100 scholarship to Stephanie Elowson based on her exceptional spirit of volunteerism in both school and the community, as well as her involvement in extracurricular activities and academic achievement. Elowson will graduate Sparta High School ranking fourth out of a class of 259, with a GPA of 4.35. Some of her many accomplishments include: Girl Scouts Gold and Silver Awards, National Honor Society 2002-2004, KEY Club President 2003-2004, Sparta High School Newspaper Copy Editor 2002-2004, Band Council President 2003-2004 and College of New Jersey Honors Band 2002-2003. She participated in student council, school choir, marching band, and plays the clarinet. Through her involvement with the Girl Scouts and KEY Club, Stefanie has volunteered her time to many local events including: 2004 Senior Citizens New Year's Eve Party, 2004 Senior Citizen Dinner, 2004 Senior Citizen Prom, Sparta Bag-It-Day and Walk for Multiple Sclerosis. "Stefanie is an outstanding student whose teachers describe her in superlatives, especially when it comes to her sense of character and work ethic. Measuring academic status with extra and co-curricular activities makes it seem almost impossible that such energy can even exist. Nevertheless, that is Stefanie Elowson and she never quits," says Mary Ann Fallone, Guidance Counselor. "Under Stefanie's leadership, the KEY Club has thrived; our membership reached record numbers this year and the number of activities we have been involved in has increased. I have to believe this is a direct result of Stefanie tirelessly exhorting those under her to give a little more, to strive a little higher," said John S. Hier, Sparta High School KEY Club Advisor. Elowson will attend Ithaca College in the fall, with a major in Business Administration and a double minor in German and Communications.
