SUNY New Paltz Melanie Greenberg of Sparta and Patricia Van Etten of Sussex were named to the dean’s list at the State University of N.Y. at New Paltz for the fall 2005 semester. Greenberg is a freshman majoring in visual arts. Van Etten is a junior majoring in metal. Dean’s list designation is preserved for students who excel academically and earn a 3.3 grade point average in a semester with a full-time course load. Emory College Kelly McWilliams, daughter of Kevin Gregory McWilliams and Michele Holtzer McWilliams of Sparta, was named to the dean’s list of Emory College, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., for the 2005 fall semester. Students must be in the top 20 percent of Emory College or have approximately a 3.825 grade point average or higher to be named to the dean’s list. University of Vermont Jacqueline E. Bell of Branchville and Kari A. Dalane of Sussex have been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2005 semester at the University of Vermont. Bell, an engineering management major, is a freshman in the College of Engineering & Mathematical Sciences. Dalane an undeclared major, is a freshman in the College of Arts & Sciences. To be named to the dean’s list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school. Elizabethtown College Kristen Paporello of Newton and Amanda Gordon of Vernon were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2005 semester at Elizabethtown College in central Pennsylvania, Both Paporello, a sophomore, and Gordon, a first-year student, are undecided majors. Students earning a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better in nine or more credit hours of letter-graded coursework are placed on the dean’s list at Elizabethtown, a small co-ed college with 1,800 students. n Messiah College Five local students were named to the dean’s list for the 2005 fall semester at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa. They are Mark Scott of Franklin, Rebecca Kuplin and Kathryn Kuplin of Ogdensburg, Kenneth Abbott of Sussex, and Leah Lindholm of Wantage. Scott is a senior majoring in psychology. Rebecca Kuplin is a senior majoring in family and consumer science education. Kathryn Kuplin is a junior majoring in human development and family science. Abbott is a first-year student majoring in communication. Lindholm is a first-year student majoring in pre-elementary education. Dean’s list at Messiah is earned by receiving a 3.6 grade point average or higher on a 4.0 scale. Messiah College is a private Christian college with an enrollment of more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 50 majors. New England College Jaclynn Lally of Sparta was named to the dean’s list at New England College in Henniker, N.H., for the fall 2005 semester. New England College is a private, four-year liberal arts institution. Providence College Jennifer O’Leary and Sarah Turkington, both of Sparta, were named to the dean’s list at Providence College in Providence, R.I., for the fall 2005 semester. O’Leary is a member of the class of 2008. Turkington is a member of the class of 2007. To qualify for the dean’s list at Providence, students must achieve at least a 3.55 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits. Sacred Heart University Shannon Dicks of Newton and Jessica Mugavero of Stockholm were recently announced to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. To receive this honor at Sacred Heart, a student must achieve a 3.6 grade average, based on a 4.0 scale. Caldwell College Six students from Sussex County were among 274 students named to the dean’s list for fall the 2005 semester. To achieve this honor, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and complete at least 12 credits during the semester. The six honorees from Sussex County are Nicole Hennelly, sophomore, of Branchville; Nicole Intveld, senior, of Vernon; Patricia Lundgren, external degree, of Newton; Danielle Saczawa, sophomore, of Sparta; Nora Swanson, junior, of Lafayette; and Terry Ziemba, continuing education, of Andover. Sussex County Community College Robert F. Basek of Franklin was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2005 semester. A grade point average of 3.5 or higher is required to attain this honor. Lafayette College Timothy James Nish, of Vernon and David John Van Schaik, of Franklin, both members of the class of 2006, were among the 864 students named to the 2005 fall semester dean’s list at the college, located in Easton, Pa. Each has achieved at least a 3.45 semester grade point average out of a possible 4.0, said Rose Marie Bukics, acting dean of studies, in announcing the awards. Oklahoma Baptist University Jacqueline Marie Palmer of Sparta, was named to the president’s honor roll at this university in Shawnee, Okla., for the fall 2005 semester. Palmer is a special education major at the Christian liberal arts university, which has an overall enrollment of 1,649, with students from 39 states and 18 other countries. Students who achieve a semester grade point average of 3.7 or higher are named to the president’s honor roll. Those who achieve a grade point average between 3.4 and 3.69 are named to the dean’s list. Clark University Karyn A. Miller of Sparta has been named to second honors on the dean’s list. The selection marks outstanding academic achievement during the fall 2005 semester. Miller, a member of Clark University’s class of 2008, attended Sparta High School. To be eligible for second honors, students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, of a maximum of 4.3 (all A+s). Located in Worcester, Mass., Clark is a private, co-educational liberal-arts research university with 2,000 undergraduate and 600 graduate students. Syracuse University Scott Hammer of Sussex, a student enrolled in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2005 semester. To qualify for the dean’s list at the school. students must achieve at least a 3.4 grade point average (on a 4.0 Scott scale) during the semester. The S.I. Newhouse School offers degree programs in advertising; broadcast journalism; magazine journalism; newspaper journalism; public relations; television, radio, and film; and visual and interactive communications. Hammer is a sophomore majoring in public relations.
