Michael Chomyj

    Michael Chomyj of West Milford died on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012. He was 88.

    Born in Spring Valley, N.Y., Mr. Chomyj was raised in Haledon and lived in Hawthorne for many years before moving to West Milford in 1991. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring. Also, he was a former parishioner of St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, Hawthorne. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II as well.

    Mr. Chomyj is survived by his daughters, Debra Slamiak and Mary Lucas, both of West Milford; his sister, Mary Kubisky, of Lincoln Park; his brother, Joseph Chomey, of Cape Coral, Fla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

    He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Bartlett.

    Services were held on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, Hawthorne, followed by interment at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Valley Hospital Foundation, 223 N. Van Dien Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
