Charles Hunt Jr., a resident Hewitt for more than 60 years, passed away on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Wayne. He was 90 years old.

Born Jan. 23, 1922, in Riverdale, he was the son of Charles and Helen (Brown) Hunt.

He was married in 1946 to June (Heinlein) Hunt.

An Army veteran of World War II, he received a Soldier Medal for a sea rescue and was involved in the amphibious landing in the Philippines.

Charles was a star athlete with Butler athletics and even tried out with the New York Yankees, but was called to serve in World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #289 in West Milfor.

Mr. Hunt was a civil engineer with Kenneth Wentink & Associates in Sussex, and with Warner Brothers Jungle Habitat in West Milford. He was formerly the president of G. Waldo Rude & Associates in Pompton Lakes.

He attended the Newfoundland United Methodist Church, was a member of the West Milford Elks, Post #2236, and was a member of the Sussex County Beagle Club.

He is survived by his wife, June Hunt, of Hewitt; a sister, Gail DiLaura of Pompton Plains; a nephew, Dean DiLaura, and a great-nephew, Dylan DiLaura; a sister-in-law, Lois Abbiati, R.N., of Wayne; a brother-in-law, Verne Heinlein, of Burlington, and several nieces.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Theodore Hunt.

Funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. in Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, N.Y. Interment will follow in Warwick Cemetery.
