Dorothea Smith

Dorothea Smith of Greenwood Lake passed away on Friday July 2, 2021, after a long and courageous fight against breast cancer. She was 68 years old.

Born in the Bronx on July 25, 1952, she was one of seven children of Homer and Dorothea (nee Ludewig) Hastings.

Her family’s statement reads: “Dorothea spent 27 years battling breast cancer, yet she was the happiest person in the world. She kept a great sense of humor throughout her life and many people didn’t even realize the battle she was fighting so valiantly. She will be remembered and missed for her determination and positive outlook she brought to every situation.”

Dorothea is survived by her loving husband Jim and beloved son Ryan; brothers Arthur of Yorktown Heights, William of Albany and Richard of Yonkers; and sisters Barbara Stellini of Staten Island and Linda Scarpinato of Cooper City, Fla. She was predeceased by her parents and brother George Hastings.

Visitation and funeral services were held July 6 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.

Final disposition will be private.
