Dorothy Grace Ackerman

    Dorothy Grace Ackerman, nee Murden, widow of Edward who predeceased her in 1968, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012. She was 89.

    Born in Jersey City the daughter of Benjamin and Barbara (Bruen) Murden, she lived in Paterson, coming to West Milford in 2007.

    Dorothy will always be remembered for her loving and caring ways, not only as a nurse, but also as a caregiver throughout her life to family, friends and all who needed her. "Grandma Dot's" love of music graced her with a beautiful singing voice. Her love and devotion to her family came first. The family would like to thank all at Milford Manor Nursing Home for their excellent care and to Hospice during her final weeks.

    Surviving are her son, Edward Ackerman and his wife Maryann of West Milford, her daughter-in-law Marlene Ackerman of Florida, five grandchildren: Traci, Marc, Linda, John and Joe, seven great-grandchildren: Rachel and Riley of New Jersey and five grandchildren in Florida, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

    Along with her husband and parents, her son John Ackerman (2008), brothers Charles and Clifford Murden and a sister Helen Bailey predeceased her.

    Visiting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Richards Funeral Home, West Milford. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Rosemount Memorial Park, Elizabeth.
