Edward J. Lynch of Newfoundland died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012. He was 92.
He was born in Jersey City to Margaret (nee Feeney) and Alexander Lynch.
He attended St. Peter's Prep, where he was a star on the football and track teams. After graduating in 1940, he attended Fordham University, where he ran track.
He served in the United States Air Force from which he earned an honorable discharge. He went on to John Marshall Law School in Jersey City from which he received his law degree. He practiced law for 55 years, as a municipal prosecutor in Union City and, thereafter, as corporation counsel and corporation attorney for Union City. Lynch had a distinguished legal career in private practice in Union City and then in Newfoundland until his retirement.
Edward J. Lynch was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He married Irene Busby of Brooklyn, N.Y., and remained happily married to her for almost 58 years until the time of his death.
He is predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Margaret Lynch, his five siblings, Margaret Lynch Suess, Alexander Lynch,Jr., Catherine Lynch Costello, Thomas Lynch and Helen Lynch Mihm, and many lifelong, loyal and beloved friends.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, nee Busby, his daughters Adrienne C. Lynch of Newton, Mass., Cynthia Lynch of Newfoundland, Sharon Lynch Weikel and her husband Merritt David Weikel of Littleton, Colo., Maureen VanDerStad and her husband Chris VanDerStad of East Haddam, Conn., and his son, Edward J. Lynch, Jr. of Palatine, Ill. He is also survived by his beloved granddaughter Vanessa Kate Weikel of Littleton, Colo., and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Joseph Church, West Milford. Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
