    Emma Carlson died on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014. She was 87.

    Born in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Henry A. and Gertrude (Simpkins) Barnikow, she lived in Moonachie before coming to Hewitt 60 years ago.

    Emma had been head cook for Upper Greenwood Lake Elementary School before retiring, a member of Eastern Star Silencia Chapter-Butler and Golden Jet Set, Hewitt.

    She is survived by a son, Carl H. W. Carlson and his wife Cindy, and a daughter, Linda E. Struble all of Hewitt, a sister Gertrude "Trudy" Yunker of Paramus, and a grandson Jonathan T. Struble and his wife Carla.

    Along with her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Henry A. Barnikow, Jr. and a sister, Elsie Friedrich.

    Visiting was held on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford. Interment was on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from funeral home to George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
