    Gertrude “Rita” Muniz, a resident of Whiting, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 19, 2012. She was 94.

    Born in New Jersey on April 25, 1918 to Joseph and Jenny Mantione,hermother died of influenza when she was two years old. She was married to Robert Munizon December 8, 1935, and had two children, Joseph and Rita, whom she cared for withcomplete dedication and love. Her son, Joseph, married Greta A. Pinks and her daughter, Rita, married John O'Brien. Rita was blessed with seven grandchildren; Valerie, Monica,Julia, Jennifer, and John (O'Brien) Kristen, and Gerard Muniz. Her family grew toinclude 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

    Ritawill be remembered for her wonderful culinary talent, her great love of God'screatures, her quick sense of humor, her strong opinions, and her amazingneedlework. She was thenucleus of the whole family and she will be greatly missed by all.

    Her family is gathering to remember and celebrate her life at RichardsFuneral Home in West Milford from 4to 8p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St.Joseph's Catholic Church, West Milford, on Wednesday, May 23, at 11 a.m., with burial to follow.
