    Helen R. Behrens of Pine Island, Florida, formerly of West Milford, passed into Heaven surrounded by her loving family on July 22, 2015, at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Florida.

    Helen Rutledge was born on Oct. 6, 1923, in Indianapolis, Indiana where she met the love of her life, Warren Behrens, who was also born on Oct. 6. After their marriage on Nov. 25, 1945, they lived in New Jersey where they raised their four children in Jersey City and West Milford.

    Helen was a selfless, caring mother who gave her children strength, courage, and the love of life. Helen lived her love of animals by raising many dogs, cats, and rabbits and by helping hundreds of others through her volunteer and philanthropic efforts.

    Helen is predeceased by her husband, Warren Behrens. She is survived by her children, Walter Behrens of Oak Ridge; Paul Behrens of Seffner, Florida; Lynn Robertia of Jupiter, Florida; W. Scott Behrens of Punta Gorda, Florida, their families; and Helen’s dear friend, Joanna McCracken of Cape Coral, Florida. Helen (“Jean”) is also survived by her cousins, Theodore Dryer and Charles Dryer of Indianapolis, Indiana.

    Helen may be honored through donations to Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, Florida or to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kenab, Utah.
