Margaret Grofsik of Wayne passed Tuesday, November 30, 2021. She was 75 years old.

She had been a resident of West Milford for more than 40 years before moving to Siena Village in Wayne in 2013.

Margaret grew up in the People’s Park section of Paterson. She moved to West Milford in 1969 where she raised her four children in the Pinecliff Lake section of town.

She began working as a cashier at ShopRite and “Marge” became one of the most beloved and popular cashiers in the store. Loyal customers would often choose her lane, even if it meant waiting a little longer, just so they could check out their groceries with Marge.

She always had a very positive attitude and greeted every one warmly. She made the people around her feel better about themselves and people were drawn to her genuine kindness.

She worked at the ShopRite for about 30 years and retired in 2011.

Margaret had a special personality that naturally endeared her to others. She was thoughtful, feisty and had a great sense of humor. She could find the silver lining in just about every situation and kept a positive attitude even during the challenging times of her life.

She was compassionate and had a very special knack for lifting up those around her. Just spending time with her was enough to make anyone feel better. She also could remember what everyone’s “favorite things” were.

She would buy those little treats and surprise you the next time she saw you, making everyone feel special. She loved gallivanting from store to store with her daughters and was happiest when shopping for her grandchildren.

While living at Siena Village, she made several new friends with whom she enjoyed bus trips and dining out on Saturday night at the Oakland Diner.

When relaxing at home, she would read mystery novels or watch shows such as CSI, Blue Bloods, Law & Order, The Voice and Judge Judy.

Margaret’s greatest passion was her family. She lived for her children, and especially so for her grandchildren. Summer vacations to the Jersey Shore were her favorite. She loved the salty air and walking on the beach more than anything. Her family will treasure those memories throughout their lifetimes.

Margaret is survived by three children: Cheryl Del Monico of Stewartsville, N.J., Denise Pellegrino and her husband Frank of Wayne, N.J., and Janet Foley and her husband Patrick of West Milford; nine grandchildren: Amanda Resseguie, Larry Malewit, Jacqueline Malewit, VJ Del Monico, Nick Pellegrino, Tommy Pellegrino, Danielle Pellegrino, Patrick Foley and Sarah Foley; her three siblings: Rosemary Heller, Marilyn Watt and Carol Lembo.

Margaret was predeceased by her dear son, Charlie Resseguie, in 2010, and by three of her siblings: Doris Van Riper, Jack Van Riper and Jimmy Van Riper.

Visitation and funeral services were held Dec. 4 at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home in Wayne.
